Who Am I?

I am a wall with many names
That have died for you and me,
I am listed a favorite architecture
I stand here for all of you to see.

I commemorate those who live
And for the many that have died,
Grown men have stood before me
Their eyes swell with tears and cried.

Three million people walk by me yearly
To pay their loved ones respect,
Some stay only for a few minutes
Others stay longer to reflect.

I am made of granite rock
I stand over ten feet tall,
Can you guess what I am?
I  am the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall.

A Familiar Knock

I hear a familiar knock
Knocking on my door,
I ask, "Just go away!"
You've never been
Welcomed here before.

Harder and harder it knocks
Refusing to go away,
"I asked you to leave me alone!"
But the knock won't go away.

This is a familiar knock
To every one in town,
And if you answer this
Knock at your door
It will only pull you down.

"You are not my friend,
Please go away!"
I raised my voice up to a scream,
I said to myself, "This can not be.
Please let it be a dream."

Determined not to leave me alone
I ran over to the door,
"Depression ⎯ never  visit me
You've never been welcomed here before."

My Visit

I went to talk to mom today
I just wanted to say, "Hi!"
I sat in the grass beside her
Beneath the beautiful sky.

I reminisced of days gone by
I laughed and cried some too,
I told my mom I missed her so
I heard her say, "Son, I do you too."

I had a wonderful visit with her
I blew her a kiss and then gave a wave,
"Mom, I love you so very much!"
I said as I left her grave.
